  • The Branch Delegate serves a key role in the organization, one which may appear in conflict at times.  The Delegate is elected by the branch as their representative to National Council.  While presenting branch issues and views, the delegate is expected to make decisions which are in the best interest of the national organization.  The delegate is also the primary communication link between the National Council and the Branch.  Branch executive experience and a good working knowledge of Branch programs and activities are a valuable asset.

  • This is an ELECTED position for a 3 year term and the Branch Delegate acts as a voting member of the BC Branch Executive.



Terms of Reference

 

The National Delegate will:

  1. Assume responsibility for the "Terms of Reference" of the position.

  2. Review the recommendations of the previous year's delegate and report on the status  of the recommendations.

  3. Attend all Branch Executive Committee meetings and the Branch Annual General Meeting.

  4. Provide the Branch Executive Committee with written progress reports  at Branch Executive Committee meetings.  A copy of the report is submitted to  the Branch Secretary for inclusion into the branch council meeting minutes.

  5. Keep the Branch President, other Executive Committee members, and Branch members fully informed of all CSHP programs and activities, as well as policies and decisions made by the National Office. In short, act as the communication link with CSHP National.

  6. Circulate copies of the minutes and other pertinent information of CSHP National Committee Meetings to all Branch Executive Committee members if deemed appropriate. Information should be relayed fairly, without bias or prejudice and all facts should be provided accurately. 

  7. Assist the incoming Delegate, with respect to responsibilities, when the term of office is completed.

  8. Follow-up to ensure Branch corresponding members are receiving information from the National Office. When the Delegate is corresponding, on behalf of National, National stationary should be used. Likewise, Branch correspondence should appear on Branch letterhead.

  9. Chair committees and task forces, as requested by the Branch President.

  10. Represent the Society at branch meetings and functions as requested by the Branch President.

  11. Assist the Executive Committee in the nomination of a new Delegate  

  12. Attend all Council meetings of CSHP National as theBranch Representative. 

  13. Submit branch reports prior to the National Midterm Council and AGM meetings and as requested.  Provide a copy of these reports for the Branch Executive Committee.

  14. Review and respond as requested to regular National Council mailings.

  15. Submit expenses for attendance at the two national council meetings to the National Office.  Expenses are totalled, divided equally by the number of Branch Delegates, and each Branch is then billed accordingly for their share of the expenses. 

  16. Ensure National Council and Executive Committee members are informed of branch issues and views.  Serve as a branch communication link with the National Office.

  17. Provide the CSHP National Office with the names of Branch members willing to serve on CSHP National committees.

  18. Encourage understanding, support, and enthusiasm for the various programs and activities of CSHP.

  19. Chair committees and task forces, as requested by the National President.

  20. Represent the Society at Branch meetings and functions as requested by the National President.

  21. To coordinate the National Officer and Executive Director's Branch visit and Member's Dialogue Session. This visit and session are intended to facilitate communication between CSHP National and the Branch and to provide an opportunity for members of the Branch to raise issues of provincial concern as well as to suggest other national issues.
